Nicaragua – Favorite Moments
I’ve been loving all the birds in Central America. They are so colorful. These two were having a chat with each other. Looks like one was trying to display his dominance to the other, and not sharing the food. They were so vibrant green!
Lava! Check out the video below. This is Masaya Volcano National Park. It was the first National park in Nicaragua.
Pretty buildings of Granada:
Sonrisa Cafe (Smile Cafe) in Granada. An awesome nonprofit organization that empowers the hearing-impaired. They also have a huge hammock, and are going for the world record of largest hammock (and it’s made from plastic bags!) pretty cool!
Sonrisa also has one the best bathrooms I’ve seen so far on my trip. Unlimited toliet paper (which is always in short supply, and an invaluable commodity in Central America!)
Hiking Concepcion Volcano in Ometepe! So tough. So glad I did it….but would not want to do again. It reminded me of the time I hiked Agung in Bali (also a volcano and something I’d only want to do once).
There were so many massive bugs at the top of Concepcion (they’re attracted to the volcanic gasses). It’s one of the most active volcanos in Nicaragua – it was closed the week prior due to activity. So steep and rocky that some parts had to climbed.
View from the top was pretty amazing though, although clouds blocked some of it. Our entire group of 17 opted to do it, and happy to say we all finished (with a few scrapes, bruises, and sunburns)!! We climed 5,280 feet/1,610 meters to the top. It took 10.5 hours! Was sore for days!!
