Pokhara, My Favorite City in Nepal
Here are a few pictures from the city of Pokhara, about 120 miles West of Kathmandu. Absolutely loved this area! There is a beautiful lake, and a pagoda that overlooks the lake. Pokhara is a base city for trekkers heading into the Annapurna area. It’s also the adventure/tourism capital, and the most expensive city in Nepal. I really enjoyed strolling around the streets, going for a boat ride, getting a massage, shopping, and visiting the pagoda.
So I decided to go paragliding over Pokhara! It was a little nerve-wracking, especially since the first two people I watched didn’t successfully take off on the first attempt. One didn’t run fast enough, and the other crosswinds prevented a good take off.
Once you make the drive up the mountain (quite an adventure in itself), you get strapped into a harness with a pilot, then run down a hill and jump off the cliff, and hope for the best! It was about 30 minutes to the ground, so I had plenty of time to take in views of the mountains and lake. We jumped from about 1,592 meters/5,220 feet. Such an adrenaline rush!
Can you see all the parachutes below?
Getting closer…..was feeling a little more at ease at this point 🙂
And finally made it! Below is the guy who brought me to safety!
